Stephon Alexander, a musician and professor of physics at Brown University, delivered a lecture to 200 guests on the link between music and the structure of the universe. In his talk, Alexander discussed the interconnection between music and the evolution of astrophysics and the laws of motion. He also explored new ways music, in particular jazz, mirrors modern physics, such as quantum mechanics, general relativity, and the physics of the early universe.
Earth & Atmospheric Sciences students drop a grab sampler to retrieve sediment samples from the bottom of Bolivar Roads – a channel that provides an entrance from the Gulf to Galveston Bay. The work, done in early December, will be compared with sampling done only 2-3 weeks prior to Hurricane Harvey.
