Culture & Science Brings Lessons on Dinosaurs

Peter Copeland (Earth & Atmospheric Sciences) discusses dinosaurs and current hypotheses for the extinction event at The Night at the Museum: Making Science Come Alive! More than 150 NSM alumni and friends attended the event in October.

Summer Institute for High School Physics Teachers

Galena Park ISD physics teachers Du Wayne La Fountain (left) and Noah Belveal explore a classroom activity demonstrating magnetic fields, electric current and basic principles of a motor. During July, high school physics teachers from across Houston spent two weeks at UH attending a faculty-led professional development program designed to support active learning in physics classrooms. Follow-up sessions will be held throughout the year as part of the STEM Teaching Equity Project-Physics.

NSM Staff Welcome Students during Cougar First Impressions

College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics staff members provided directions and assistance to students during the first two days of the fall semester. The table, located in front of the Science and Engineering Classroom Complex, was part of the Cougar First Impressions event organized by UH Staff Council.

Chemistry: Not Just for Nerds!

During Culture & Science: A Night at the Museum, Simon Bott (Chemistry) gets the audience involved in experiments illustrating fundamental chemistry concepts. As promised, he showed guests that chemistry is a science of color, energy and utility.

Thirty-two NSM undergraduates showcased their mentored research projects at UH’s Undergraduate Research Day. Students prepared poster or oral presentations.
